Socrates is a software program developed specifically for orthopaedic conditions. It enables your doctor to record and analyse details about your condition and the operation or treatment you had, or are having. The software has a lot of patient surveys included which have been developed by orthopaedic doctors around the world. These have questions that relate specifically to the condition you have and may ask about your pain, how you are functioning, questions about your work and sport, and other questions relevant for your condition. They may also ask you if you are satisfied with your treatment, and whether you might undergo the same treatment again. This enables your doctor to track how you are doing, and build up a database of people who have the same condition and treatment as you did. This will help them to predict your expected outcome based on your own condition and medical history. It also means that in the unlikely event that there are any complications or side-effects from the treatment or surgery, your doctor will find this out early on and this could save you and other patients from experiencing them.
These days there is a lot of information on the Internet about many different orthopaedic conditions and treatments. Some of your friends or teammates may also have had the same condition as you. However, all patients are slightly different - there is no one else out there exactly the same as you and only your own doctor can give you good information about your condition and expected outcome.
All the data in the Socrates programme that includes your name and identifiable details, and all your results, are stored at your doctor’s office. The Socrates company does not have any access to your results or any private information about you. Your doctor would not share any information about you with anyone else without your permission.
If your doctor is using Socrates, you can be assured that they care about their patients and their outcomes, and have spent time and money to ensure that they can do this in a scientific manner, along with many of their colleagues around the world.
